'who is the monster and who is the man?'physicalizes the state of it’s victims soul. whether it’s corrupt, innocent, or undetermined, the state of their soul will morph onto their bodies, turning them from anywhere in between a vile and disgusting creature worse than goblins itself to someone who’s beauty can surpass those of even aphrodite.the term 'sanctuary' is one that defines protection and safety. for belle, the biggest protection they can give themself is understanding someones true soul, their intentions, their purpose. an image that cannot tell them any lies, only then do they feel comfortable opening up to them.

context
Quasi, derived from the latin word, means 'almost' or 'as if'. 'Beryl', a mineral composed of beryllium aluminum silicate, in it's pure state is entirely colorless however is often tainted with impurities to create a series of different colors. The ancient greek word bḗryllos, which referred to various blue-green stones, was used as an inspiration for the term we know today. Belle takes inspiration from both Quasimodo and Esmerelda (who's name means emerald), hence, the gem Chrysoberyl which is also often a green gem was chosen for Belle's name.

childhood (brief)
Belle grew up in a very conservative household. As a child born out of wedlock, both they and their father were banished to the attic, unable to come out whenever the house had guests. Beryl-Lynn does not know their actual maiden-name; the master of the house refused to give it to them and does not consider them part of the family. Hence, the name 'Quasi', a half formed illegitimate child. Up until high school, they were tutored by their father, who although was a smart and kind man initially, had slowly started to lose his humanity after having been oppressed by his family for too long. It first started off as simple hallucinations, then his speech became slurred; slowly, he would start forgetting things. After a few years, he had become unrecognizable. He didn't know how to control his own body anymore and often wet himself. He had to be fed, showered for, and taken care of by his own child who had barely reached their teens. Belle, who had fallen victim to this, slowly found themselves despising their father for "lying" to them when they were a kid, for being a sweet and caring man only to end up turning against them.

Because of their growing hatred for their father, once they had finally unlocked their UM and used it on themself in anticipation, it turned them ugly. A manifestation of all the hatred and resentment they had to the only person who treated them nicely onto their own body. From that day on, they were unable to unsee that image, every mirror they looked at the ugly version of them would reflect back, even though the spell had already worn off. They do not know what they truly look like.
